The Hague: A Sikh organization has demanded an impartial investigation into Indian aggression by the International Court of Justice
The Indian drone attack on the holy site of Nankana Sahib has sparked outrage among the Sikh community worldwide. Switzerland-based Sikh organization MAAR has called the attack a blatant attack on religious freedom and filed a formal complaint against India at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Sikh organization says that on the night of April 7 and 8, India attacked Nankana Sahib through a drone, which was foiled by Pakistani forces in a timely and successful manner. However, this incident is another example of India’s dangerous trend which it is not only increasing border tensions but also targeting the holy sites of minorities.
MAAR has demanded that the International Court of Justice conduct an impartial investigation into India’s alleged aggression and hold it accountable for its violation of international law. The organization says that attacks on religious places of worship are a clear violation of international humanitarian law, and such actions cannot be acceptable in any civilized world.
The Sikh organization also made a historical reference on this occasion that India had previously bombed Kartarpur Sahib in the 1971 war, which is a painful reminder of the repeated attacks on the sentiments and religious freedoms of the Sikhs.
MAAR clearly stated that India is not only jeopardizing the peace of the region but is also attacking the religious freedom and cultural identity of the Sikhs. The organization called on the international community to step forward and stop India from its aggressive actions instead of being silent spectators.
The organization said that the protection of religious and cultural sites is essential in all circumstances, especially at a time when political or military tensions are at their peak. The Sikh community will not tolerate attacks on its holy sites under any circumstances and will continue to raise its voice against this atrocity on every front.
