Jerusalem: Israeli scientists have acknowledged the damage caused to Israel’s major research center, the Weizmann Institute, in the Iranian missile attack, saying that the Iranian missile attack has set back their research for years.

According to a report by the British news agency ‘Reuters’, this statement was made by scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where two buildings were directly targeted in the Iranian missile attack on Sunday, June 15, and several research laboratories were destroyed.

The institute’s vice president for development and communications, Rui Ozeri, has confirmed that several buildings were damaged, two of which were directly targeted.

“We were attacked by Iranian missiles on Sunday morning,” said Roi Ozeri. “Many of our buildings were hit, two were directly hit. Fortunately, there were no casualties because the buildings were empty at the time and there were no students, researchers or faculty members present at the time of the attack.”

Roi Ozeri said that during the firefighting efforts after the attack, as much as possible samples were saved from the laboratories, but a lot of valuable scientific material was destroyed.

“It will take a long time to recover from this damage. Some experiments in which we had collected samples with six months or a year of hard work, everything has been lost. You collect tissues from the entire process for analysis in one day and then you find that there is nothing left,” said Scientist Elad Tsahour.

“In my opinion, it will take about a year to fully resume research and fully restore the system, I want to reiterate that there is some of our research that will no longer be possible,” he said.

Drone footage released by the Israeli military and the institute shows destroyed buildings where scientific equipment, laboratories and valuable research data have been destroyed.
