Sahiwal: All resources will be utilized for the promotion of hockey. Hockey is the national sport of Pakistan. Commissioner Sahiwal Dr. Asif Tufail said this while talking to former Olympian hockey player Qamar Zia, Shahzada Alamgir, International Hockey Player, RUJ District President Chaudhry Muhammad Najeeb, and Rana Waheed, who came from Lahore. He said that the Chief Minister of Punjab is paying special attention to the promotion of sports in Punjab. In this regard, Astro Turf will be laid in Qamar Zia Hockey Stadium, Sahiwal, soon. On this occasion, former Olympian Qamar Zia told Commissioner Sahiwal that there is a nursery attached to the sports club, which was earlier part of the sports club, it should be included in the ground and a hotel should be built here for the players and shops should be built in front of the ground so that the Astro Turf Hockey Stadium can meet its expenses on its own. He further said that if funds are not allocated for this, the Astro Turf will be destroyed in three to four years. On the occasion, Prince Alamgir said that Dr. Asif Tufail was previously the DG Sports Punjab. Thanks to his efforts, Astro Turf was approved in Sahiwal, and funds have also been announced. He further said that in this regard, a committee should be formed under his leadership, which should consist of hockey players, journalists and philanthropists, and a focal person who is passionate about hockey should also be made. Commissioner Sahiwal assured the delegation that the feasibility of laying Astro Turf in the hockey ground will be prepared soon and he will also visit the hockey ground after taking a briefing from the relevant sports department.
