Fake police station busted in Indian capital’s outskirts

Fake embassies, courts, toll plazas, etc., have been busted in India before

New Delhi: Police have busted a fake police station in Noida, a suburb of India’s national capital, New Delhi. Last month, a fake embassy was also found in Ghaziabad, adjoining Delhi, which had been operating for ten years.

Shakti Mohan Awasthi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Noida, said that the police have successfully foiled an attempt at organised fraud. He said that the accused had set up a fake office in the name of ‘International Police and Crime Investigation Bureau’ in Noida Sector 70, where they were trying to cheat the public and extort money by using the insignia of the police and documents of fake ministries.

He said that during the raid, six suspects were arrested and extensive evidence was seized, including fake identity cards, certificates from ministries, checkbooks, ATM cards, visiting cards, signboards, mobile phones, and Rs 42,300 in cash.

All six accused have been sent to judicial custody and the investigation is ongoing.
