Rajasthan: 55-year-old Rekha Kalbeliya gave birth to her 17th child at the Community Health Center in Jharol tehsil of Udaipur district, Rajasthan, India.

Rekha’s husband’s name is Kawara Ram Kalbeliya, and on the occasion of the birth of her 17th child, apart from her relatives, villagers, her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren were also present to express their happiness.
Rekha and Kawara Ram have had a total of 17 children so far, out of which five (four sons and one daughter) died soon after birth. At present, they have 12 children alive, including seven sons and five daughters.
According to Kawara Ram, two of their sons and three daughters are married, and they also have two to three children. Thus, Rekha had become a grandmother several times before the birth of her youngest child.
However, the family’s financial condition is very poor. Kawara Ram, a scrap dealer, said that he had to take loans at interest for the children’s marriages. He said that “no one in the family has ever gone to school.”
Dr. Roshan Darangi, who provided medical advice and treatment to Rekha on the occasion of the birth of her 17th child, said that “Initially, Rekha pretended that this was her fourth delivery. Later, it was found that she had already given birth to children 16 times, out of which five children did not survive.”
