London: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded the release of the observer mission report on the 2024 general elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has demanded the release of a foreign observer mission report on the 2024 general elections.

PTI claims that the report has revealed evidence of systematic rigging, institutional bias and targeting of PTI and its founder Imran Khan.

The demand came after a recent report by an independent news agency, Drop Sight News, which claimed that the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) did not make its report public because it identified several problems in the February 8 general elections.

Although the group’s report on Pakistan has not yet been officially released, some media outlets have claimed to have received leaked copies of it.

In a statement, the COG said it was aware that a version of its report on the 2024 general elections was circulating online, but as a matter of policy, it could not comment on leaked documents.

The statement added that the government of Pakistan and the Election Commission of Pakistan have already received the report, while the full report, as we have previously reported, will be released by the end of this month, along with other COG reports that are in the process of being published.

The COG also made it clear that its work is completely free from any kind of interference.

Announcing its preliminary findings on February 10, 2024, the COG had said that its recommendations and observations would first be sent to the Commonwealth Secretary-General, after which they would be shared with the government of Pakistan and the people.

However, the mission’s report has faced an unusual delay, as most observer missions release their reports in a few days or weeks.

According to a portion of the leaked report obtained by Daily Dawn, Dawn TV London, which it could not independently verify, initially, the vote count seemed to show PTI-backed candidates winning in large numbers, but later their lead suddenly disappeared.

In a statement, PTI’s Central Secretary for Information, Sheikh Waqas Akram, said that the leaked report had confirmed PTI’s long-standing concerns that there had been widespread rigging before and after the electoral process.

Zulfi Bukhari, a former advisor to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, also questioned why the report was never made public.

He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that “tomorrow I will consult with my legal advisors to initiate action, the aim of which is to fully disclose the report and expose the process of decisions through which it was suppressed.”
