Multan: Another part of Motorway M5 has been washed away due to a flood in Jalalpur Peerwala near Multan.

According to the Chief Police Officer Multan, water entered rapidly due to a crack in the eastern part of the motorway and a large part of the road was submerged. Earlier, the western part of M5 had also been flooded. Motorway police and NHA personnel are busy with restoration work with heavy machinery.

Key officials said that the rapid flow of the Sutlej River is moving towards the Chenab River and stones are being thrown on the crack to reduce the pressure of the water. The motorway from Multan to Jhangra remains closed for traffic for the eighth day.

According to the Motorway Police spokesperson, during the closure of the M5, passengers should use the national highway from Multan to Sukkur as an alternative route. From Shah Shams Interchange, the national highway can be accessed to the Och Sharif Interchange, from where it can be rejoined to the M5 motorway.
