The majority of police officers are supporters or helpers of TikTokers, land grab mafia and other social evils
Daily Dawn correspondent, Dawn TV report
Arifwala: In Arifwala city of Punjab province, Pakistan, a magistrate has recently written a harsh verdict against the police, questioning the powers of the police.
According to a copy of the verdict available to Nawa-e-Waqt/Dawn London, Magistrate Section 30 Muhammad Iqbal Kaliar in Arifwala’s court made strong remarks on the powers and role of the police as part of the verdict.
The verdict states that according to the record, the accused Muhammad Javed, son of Muhammad Ishaq, was arrested in one case, and later he was nominated in another case as well.
On being implicated in successive cases, the magistrate has written in his verdict that ‘undoubtedly, the police is the ‘king without a crown’ (uncrowned king) in this country. Police officers are enjoying unlimited powers over which there is no control. This is a black spot on the rule of law. In the presence of the police, it is difficult to say that the law is supreme. The fact is that the police department considers itself supreme.’
Magistrate Muhammad Iqbal Kaliar further wrote in his judgment that ‘the police department has become so uncontrolled that a majority of the police officers are supporters or helpers of TikTokers, land grabbers and other social evils. This court found it surprising that the investigating officer illegally implicated the accused Muhammad Javed, son of Muhammad Ishaq, in the present case during his police custody. Apparently, the present case appears to be a planted one.’
The judgment termed the action of the IO (Investigating Officer) as ‘illegal’, who implicated the accused in this new case as well. The court ordered the accused to be sent to jail and a report to be sought on October 6, 2025.
However, it is interesting that Magistrate Muhammad Iqbal Kaliar was transferred a day after this judgment. A notification issued by the Lahore High Court said that Subordinate Civil Judge Muhammad Iqbal Kaliyar has been transferred from Arifwala and posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Lahore Civil Court.
The notification said that the appointment has been made in the ‘public interest’ and he has been asked to report by September 24, 2025. Apart from this, the notification did not state any reason for the transfer.
