Belgrade: Serbian police have arrested 11 people for placing pig heads outside mosques in France and Germany and desecrating Jewish religious sites.

According to the Interior Ministry, the group was allegedly trained by a suspect who is currently on the run and was working for a foreign intelligence agency. According to authorities, the arrested people aimed to promote ideas based on hatred, discrimination and violence.

According to reports, earlier this month, nine pig heads were placed outside mosques in Paris and its suburbs, which caused great anger and outrage among the Muslim community. It should be noted that pigs are considered unclean animals in Islam.

Earlier in April, the Holocaust Memorial, three synagogues and a restaurant in Paris were defaced with green paint. Three Serbs have been tried and jailed in France.

Serbian police said the latest arrests were made in the capital Belgrade and the southern town of Velika Plana, and the suspects will be tried on a range of charges, including racism, hatred and espionage.
