Portugal: The parliament of another European country, Portugal, has overwhelmingly approved a bill banning the wearing of the niqab in public places.

This bill was presented by Portugal’s far-right party, the Chiga Party. A vote was held on it.

60 members of the governing coalition of liberal parties and the Chiga Party voted in favor of the bill, while left-wing parties and communist members opposed it.

However, the bill was passed due to a numerical majority, after which the wearing of the niqab in public places will be banned, and a fine of 200 to 4,000 euros will be imposed for violation.

In addition, forcing or forcing someone to wear a niqab can lead to a prison sentence of up to 3 years. This is worrying for parents who want to make their daughters wear the niqab.

However, it should be noted that the ban on the niqab will only apply to public places, with exemptions for airplanes, diplomatic compounds and places of worship.

It should be noted that Portugal is not the only European country to have imposed a ban on the niqab. Several European countries, such as France, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands, also have complete or partial bans.

After approval by parliament, the bill will now go to the president for ratification, although Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa can veto the bill or send it to the Constitutional Court for review.
