London: Former England cricketer Stuart Broad’s father and former match referee Chris Broad opened the pool of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s pro-India attitude, saying that phone calls were made to save the Indian team.
During an interview given to the Daily Telegraph, he made several revelations about his tenure.
Former match referee Chris Broad said that the Indian cricket lobby is ruling the ICC and the BCCI is completely controlling the International Cricket Council.
The former England cricketer said that when he was serving as a match referee, he was asked by higher authorities to be lenient against India.
He said that the ICC had asked him to be lenient against India in the matter of the code of conduct. There is a lot of politics within the ICC, I am happy that I am no longer a part of this system because now this position has become much more political than before.
He said that India was 3- 4 overs behind at the end of a match, for which a penalty was imposed, but I got a call to show leniency because this is India, for which we had to find some justification, and the shortage of overs was shown to be less, so that the penalty was not imposed.
The former referee, who retired in 2024, said that when Vince van der Byl (ICC Umpires Manager) was in his position, we had his support because he had his cricket background, but when he left, the administration became weak.
He said that there is a lot of politics involved in the game; now, people make decisions considering political complications. India has all the money, and now it controls the ICC in many respects.
It should be noted that during the Pakistan-India clash in the Champions Trophy held in the United Arab Emirates, politics was also played by India in the game and match referee Andy Pycroft was used against Pakistan.
