Islamabad: Federal government debt has reached a new high in the country’s history, central government debt has reached record Rs 72,123 billion as of January 2025.
Federal government debt has increased further, The State Bank of Pakistan has released data on federal government debt up to January 2025.
According to the State Bank document, during the first 7 months of the current fiscal year from July 2024 to January 2025, federal government debt increased by Rs 3,209 billion, while central government debt increased by Rs 476 billion in January.
According to the document, an increase of Rs 7,283 billion was recorded in federal government debt in the year from February 2024 to January 2025.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the federal government’s debt as of January 2025 was Rs 72,123 billion, of which local debt was Rs 50,283 billion and external debt was Rs 21,880 billion.
According to the document, the federal government’s debt as of December 2024 was Rs 71,647 billion and the federal government’s debt as of June 2024 was Rs 68,914 billion, while the federal government’s debt as of January 2024 was Rs 64,840 billion.
