Karnataka: A 27-year-old Israeli woman tourist and a local homestay owner were allegedly gang-raped by 3 men in the Indian state of Karnataka.
According to Indian media reports, the incident took place at around 11:30 pm on Thursday night when both women were stargazing near a canal in a town called Kopal, about 350 km from Bengaluru.
According to the report, before sexually abusing the women, the accused pushed other tourists present there into a deep canal. Two of them managed to get out, while the tourist from Odisha is still missing.
A senior police officer has assured that the accused will be arrested soon. Karnataka police said that the affected women are undergoing treatment at a government hospital and are recovering.
According to Indian media, Kopal Police Chief Ram Arasadi said that five people, including two foreign tourists, an American and an Israeli woman, were attacked near Sinapur. The Israeli woman said that the attackers beat her and another woman and sexually assaulted them.
A 29-year-old homestay owner said that he and four guests had gone to see the stars by a canal after dinner. At that time, the attackers came on a motorcycle.
First, the attackers asked where they could get gas, after which they demanded Rs 100 from the tourists. When they refused, the attackers attacked them and sexually assaulted the women. After that, they escaped on their motorcycle.
The report further said that fire officials and a police dog squad are searching for the missing tourist.
