Green Star event at Pakistan High Commission London, calls for urgent attention to maternal and child health

London: An important event was held at the Pakistan High Commission London under the auspices of Green Star Social Marketing Pakistan, in which attention was drawn to the dire situation related to maternal and child health in Pakistan. The event was addressed by Green Star Chief Executive Dr. Syed Azizul Rab, Trustee of Faiz Foundation Trust Muneza Hashmi, renowned social leader Carl Hoffman (Washington DC), and Rehana Ahmed, while Deputy High Commissioner Haseeb Bin Aziz addressed as the host.
The participants of the event included First Secretaries Ijaz Hussain, Jawad Ali Chhatta, Sarfaraz Khan, Press Minister Ali Nawaz Malik, Irfan Qazi, Shahab Khawaja, Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Fawad Shamim, Dr. Saeed, Saleem Raza, Tabassum Shakir, Asif Shahab, Tahira Raza, Amna Zaheer, Alia Iqbal Naqvi, Naveed Gilani, Shamma Zahid and Faisal Ahmed, along with personalities from various walks of life. Addressing the event, Dr. Syed Azizul Raab revealed that Pakistan is among the four countries where half of the maternal deaths worldwide occur. “Every month, 1,300 women die due to complications of pregnancy, and if they are provided with complete care and nutrition during pregnancy, their lives can be saved,” he said.
He stressed that improving the reproductive health of women can not only save their lives but also reintegrate them into economic activities. He gave the example of Bangladesh and said, “If they can reduce the birth rate, why not Pakistan?” Muneza Hashmi said in her address that the board of directors of Green Star is in London to sensitize overseas Pakistanis about the challenges of the growing population in Pakistan. She said that thousands of women’s deaths and child health problems every month are putting our national future at stake.
The event also highlighted Green Star’s services, including reproductive health, family planning, malnutrition, and the provision of basic health facilities. Finally, Deputy High Commissioner Haseeb Bin Aziz thanked all the guests and said that the Pakistan High Commission would continue to host such meaningful events in the future.
