Plan to mobilize five full military brigades, fear of mass evacuation of Palestinians
Daily Dawn Foreign Desk + Dawn TV Report
Gaza: The Israeli army is preparing for a large and unprecedented military operation in Gaza. According to the Israeli website “Walla”, this time instead of a limited operation, five full military brigades are being considered, while a plan to force the largest evacuation of Palestinian citizens since the start of the war is also being considered.
On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held an important meeting with senior security officials, in which the next stages of the ongoing war in Gaza were discussed. This meeting is taking place at a time when efforts to exchange prisoners between Israel and Hamas are stalled.
According to “Walla”, the Israeli leadership is considering two paths: either reaching an agreement with Hamas to release prisoners or launching another large-scale ground operation.
Military sources say the army is seriously considering the largest civilian evacuation since the start of the war to prepare the ground for a new military operation.
Possible movement of five brigades
Some circles in the military leadership believe that a large-scale ground operation is inevitable, which will require a large-scale evacuation of Palestinians from northern, central and southern Gaza.
According to the sources, the plan includes a proposal to mobilize five full brigades, while reservists will also be called up to increase manpower.
According to military officials, this possible operation aims to weaken Hamas’s political and military leadership, especially at a time when public anger against Hamas is growing. However, officials have also warned that fighting in Gaza’s densely populated and tunnel-ridden settlements could result in heavy casualties for the Israeli army.
There are currently sharp differences within the Israeli General Staff on the issue. Some believe that the military successes are sufficient and the war can be ended, while others insist that more military pressure is needed.
New evacuation orders
The Israeli army issued a new evacuation warning for several areas in northern Gaza on Sunday. According to army spokesman Avichay Idris, all those in Gaza City, Jabalia and surrounding areas such as Zeitoun al-Sharqi, Al-Balda al-Qedima, Al-Turkman, Jeddah, Al-Tuffah, Al-Dirj, Al-Sabra, Jabalia al-Balad, Jabalia al-Nuzla, Jabalia camp, Al-Rawda, Al-Nahda, Al-Zuhour, Al-Nour, Al-Salam and Tal al-Za’tar have been ordered to evacuate immediately.
The development comes as US President Donald Trump is busy trying to reach a deal with Hamas for the return of prisoners held in Gaza.
On Sunday, Trump wrote on his social media platform “Truth Social”: “Make a deal for Gaza and bring back the prisoners.”
