When they speak, they lie to the nation. Imports from India reached $215 million in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025
Commerce reporter, Daily Dawn + Dawn TV report
Lahore: Despite a brief military conflict between Pakistan and India and the continued closure of borders, trade activities continued in May. According to official data, imports from India reached a 3-year high during July-May of fiscal year 2025.
State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data shows that imports from India reached $215 million in the first 11 months of fiscal year 2025, which is more than $207 million in fiscal year 2024 and $190 million in fiscal year 2023. In May alone, when there was a 4-day dispute in the first week, imports remained at $15 million, which was $17 million in the same month last year.
However, Pakistan’s exports to India remained negligible, with exports in May recording only $1,000, while total exports during July-May of fiscal year 2025 remained at just $500,000. Exports in fiscal years 2024 and 2023 were $3.44 million and $3.3 million, respectively, which shows the one-sided nature of trade relations between the two countries.
