London: Qasim Khan, the son of PTI founder Imran Khan, who is imprisoned in Adiala Jail, has highlighted that his father has been jailed in “really bad conditions” which are “getting worse by the minute”.

Imran’s sons – Suleman Khan, 28, and Qasim, 26, publicly drew attention to their father’s imprisonment for the first time in May. Earlier this month, Imran’s sister Aleema Khan said that Suleman and Qasim would visit the US before coming to Pakistan as part of a movement demanding the former prime minister’s release. The siblings visited the US and held talks with US lawmakers on the issue of their father’s imprisonment.

In an interview on US media outlet Real America’s Voice, Qasim said, “Right now he is in a really, really bad situation and it seems like he is getting worse by the minute. So we are looking for any way out.”

Stressing that Imran was being held in solitary confinement, she said, “The conditions in the cell he is in are extremely appalling.”

She continued, “He is bathing in muddy water. I don’t mean unfiltered water. This is muddy, dirty water,” alleging that 10 people in the prison had died due to the filthy conditions.

Qasim expressed concern over not being able to see his father, saying, “There were moments … he was in his cell for 10 days without any light,” calling it a “tactical tactic.”

“He only gets two hours a day. We don’t get to talk to him at all,” he added.

Qasim said he and his brother are “looking to America right now” for support, saying, “Many people here have expressed concern. It seems like this might be the only way out at the moment.”

Speaking about his meeting with US President Donald Trump’s top aide Richard Grenell, he said, “Grenell was very kind to spend some time with us.”

“We talked at length and I don’t want to go into details but I am very hopeful about it.”

He said Imran won the February 2024 elections, which were “savagely rigged,” from a prison cell.
