Islamabad: Despite claims of expenditure reduction and austerity measures, the federal government’s expenditure on running affairs has increased by about 14 percent, the expenditure has exceeded the government target and revised estimate.
There has been a significant increase in the federal government’s expenditure, which includes daily operational expenses of federal ministries, divisions and institutions, salaries and administrative matters, and other expenses.
According to documents from the Ministry of Finance, Rs892 billion was spent on running government affairs during the fiscal year 2024-25, while the target for expenditure on running government affairs was set at Rs839 billion, and the revised estimate was set at Rs886 billion.
According to the documents, the government expenditure for the fiscal year 2023-24 was Rs784 billion, for the fiscal year 2022-23 it was Rs634 billion, and for the fiscal year 2021-22 it was Rs547 billion.
The federal government has estimated a further increase in the government expenditure for the current fiscal year 2025-26, starting from July 1, and the target for the government expenditure for the current fiscal year has been set at Rs971 billion.
