Gilgit-Baltistan: Shutter-down strike continues on the call of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, government imposes Section 144 in view of a possible unpleasant situation.

Shutter-down strike continues on the call of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat against the attack on renowned religious scholar Qazi Nisar Ahmed in Gilgit. A protest dharna has been held near the Chief Minister’s House in Gilgit, while Public Chowk Road has been closed by protesters.

Protesters have closed Public Chowk Gilgit, due to which traffic movement on Quaid-e-Azam Highway has been suspended.

Following the recent attack on Maulana Qazi Nisar, the Gilgit district administration has imposed Section 144 to maintain law and order.

Under this order, all public gatherings, rallies, processions and demonstrations have been banned, carrying or displaying weapons, including firing in the air, has been completely banned, except for law enforcement officials on official duty.

Similarly, pillion riding on motorcycles has also been banned; however, women, children, elderly people and law enforcement officials will be exempted from this. Blocking public roads or any action that disrupts normal life has been prohibited.
