Azad Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mahmood passes away

Islamabad/Mirpur: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Barrister Sultan Mahmood has passed away.

Barrister Sultan had been ill and undergoing treatment for several months. He was undergoing treatment for cancer in Islamabad, where he passed away today. Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry was 71 years old and had been holding the post of President since August 2021.

The funeral prayers of the Azad Kashmir President will be offered at 3 pm tomorrow at Khari Sharif, Mirpur.

Barrister Sultan Mahmood was elected President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on August 25, 2021. He was also the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from 1996 to 2001. Barrister Sultan Mahmood joined the Tehreek-e-Insaf in February 2015, a year after which he was defeated for the first time in his 25-year political career. However, he was re-elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly in the by-election held in Mirpur in 2019.
