2,700 protests in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, and other states. This government is cruel and authoritarian, protesters.

New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago: Thousands of people took to the streets in all 50 US states to express their anger against President Donald Trump’s hardline policies. These protests were organized under the name of ‘No Kings’, which top Republican leaders derisively called ‘Hate America rallies’.
From New York and Washington to small towns in Michigan, more than 2,700 protests were planned across the country, and organizers said they expected millions of people to participate, which could be one of the largest public protests in American history.
The mass movement is the second since similar demonstrations in June, against policies that critics say are pushing the country toward dictatorship.
“This is democracy in its true form!” chanted thousands of protesters near Washington’s National Mall, many waving American flags while others chanted “Hey, hey, hey, Donald Trump has to go!”
The protesters were angry that the Republican billionaire president has become increasingly authoritarian since his return to power. Their concerns include attacks on the media, prosecutions of political opponents, and a sweeping crackdown on immigration, with National Guard troops deployed in cities such as Los Angeles, Washington, and Memphis.
The demonstrations came as the US government shutdown entered its third week, and the Trump administration has laid off thousands of federal employees as it stalled legislation.
Thousands gathered in New York’s Times Square, Boston Common, and Chicago’s Grant Park. In Los Angeles, organizers expected 100,000 protesters and planned to release a “giant balloon wearing Trump’s diaper” into the air.
Colleen Hoffman, a 69-year-old retiree, told AFP in New York that she never thought she would see the collapse of her democracy. “We are in a crisis. This government is cruel and authoritarian. I can’t afford to sit at home and do nothing.”
Trump’s response to the protests was relatively muted, but his supporters responded forcefully, with House Speaker Mike Johnson calling the day a “hate America rally.”
