Vancouver: Air India pilot removed from flight for being drunk
An international Air India flight in Vancouver, Canada was delayed when a pilot was removed from the plane before takeoff on suspicion of being drunk.
When Air India flight AI186 was preparing to depart. A crew member at the airport saw the pilot buying alcohol.
The crew member immediately informed the relevant authorities and upon receiving the information, the Canadian authorities examined the pilot.
When the smell of alcohol was detected from the pilot, his breath analyzer test was conducted, in which he could not meet the required standards.
Describing the situation as a threat to the safety of passengers, the authorities took the pilot into custody for further investigation.
An Air India spokesperson said that as per the airline’s safety regulations, a replacement pilot was immediately arranged, but the flight was delayed due to the time it took to deploy a new pilot.
According to the spokesperson, a full investigation into the incident is underway and the pilot has been temporarily removed from duty pending its findings.
Air India stressed that the safety of passengers is the airline’s top priority and no negligence will be tolerated in this matter.
