London: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has described President Trump’s statement, in which he said that ‘NATO troops did not fight on the front lines in Afghanistan’ as ridiculous and shameful.
Keir Starmer told reporters, ‘I find these statements by President Trump ridiculous and, frankly, very shameful. I am not surprised that these words must have deeply hurt the families of those whose loved ones were killed or injured in this war.
When the British Prime Minister was asked if he would demand an apology from the US President, his response was something like this: “If I had said such a wrong thing or used such words, I would certainly apologize.”
Britain’s Prince Harry, who himself served in Afghanistan, also reacted to the statement. He said: “These sacrifices must be remembered with truth and respect. We have paid the price of blood for this alliance.”
Roman Polko, a retired Polish general and former commander of special forces who has served in Afghanistan and Iraq, said: “We expect an apology for this statement.”
He said: “The US president has crossed a red line. We have given our blood, and indeed our lives, for this alliance.’
Alastair Corne, the British Minister for Veterans Affairs, who served five tours of duty with US troops in Afghanistan, called President Trump’s claims “absolutely ridiculous.”
“We have shed blood, sweat and tears, and not everyone has come home,” he said.
