Dawn TV Report Daily Dawn

Muzaffarabad: The people of illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are facing continuous Indian atrocities and brutalities where severe human rights violations are taking place.
The atrocities and repression of Indian forces have pushed occupied Jammu and Kashmir into deep despair and Kashmiris are being subjected to torture, unjustified arrests and other atrocities. After India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019, the region has been plunged into complete darkness. Once a culturally thriving, occupied Jammu and Kashmir has now become the most militarized region in the world, which has been transformed into an open prison and where bloodshed and terror have become a part of everyday life. The occupying forces are violating the fundamental rights of Kashmiris from every aspect. According to a report by Kashmir Media Service, Indian forces have martyred 96,408 Kashmiris since 1989. In January 2025 alone, Indian troops have martyred 11 Kashmiris and arrested 37. The Kashmiri people are living in constant fear as Indian forces have unleashed atrocities and repression across the region. The Indian occupation government led by Narendra Modi has committed immense atrocities on Kashmiris. Black laws such as the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act are being used to suppress political dissent and deny the political freedoms of Kashmiris. Due to this, basic human rights are being systematically violated in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The silence of the international community on India’s atrocities has emboldened the Indian government to continue its violent campaign in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Human rights violations are directly related to the unresolved Kashmir dispute, which has been a source of conflict in South Asia. Despite immense atrocities, the Kashmiri people’s spirit of freedom has not been broken and their struggle for justice and the right to self-determination continues. Kashmiris demand that the crimes committed by Indian forces in occupied Jammu and Kashmir be held accountable.
