Chakswari: A British-origin Kashmiri man has been arrested in the Mirpur district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on charges of having sex with a woman on false promise of marriage.

The accused, a resident of Barnala Bhatia village in Chakswari tehsil, has been detained under Section 10 of the Adultery (Enforcement of Hudud) Ordinance, 1979 (ZHA).

His arrest was made after a woman resident of Chakswari complained with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirpur Khawar Ali Shaukat.

The SSP forwarded the application to the Chakswari police station, which formally registered a First Information Report (FIR) after reviewing her medical examination report on Saturday.

According to the complainant, she and her parents had been living as tenants in a house owned by the accused’s son for about a year, she alleged that the accused, who is based in Bradford, UK, had stayed in the same house during his visit to Pakistan.

The complainant said that during his last visit, which lasted for 2 to 3 months, the man proposed marriage to her in the presence of her parents, and the proposal was accepted and he returned to the UK thereafter.

About 2 months ago, the accused returned to Pakistan and repeatedly assured her that he would marry her and take her to the UK.

According to the complainant, during this period, he exploited my trust and sexually assaulted me several times. On March 26, when I insisted that he fulfill his promise, he flatly refused and said that he would never marry me. He also threatened that if I spoke to anyone about this, he would kill me.

The case alleges that the man cheated her, violated her dignity, and ruined her life while continuing to threaten her with dire consequences. Therefore, calling him a dangerous person, I demand legal action and protection for myself and my family.

Abdul Quddus, Station House Officer (SHO) of Chakswari, told ‘Daily Dawn and Dawn TV’ that after receiving the woman’s complaint, they summoned her for a medical examination at the Rural Health Centre on Saturday under the supervision of the Family Medical Officer.
