Finland: There have been no traffic deaths in the capital, Helsinki, in the past year. This has been possible due to data-based urban planning.
Zero, this is the number of people killed in traffic accidents in the Finnish capital, Helsinki, last year. The Norwegian capital, Oslo, achieved this feat in 2019, but Helsinki, which is home to about seven lakh people, has joined the big cities to achieve this goal. The last loss of life due to traffic in Helsinki was reported in July 2024.
The number of deaths on the roads of the Finnish capital has been significantly lower than that of other European capitals. In 2024, four traffic deaths were recorded in Helsinki until the beginning of July, while the number in London was 110.
