Mirpur/Muzaffarabad: After a deadlock with the federal government on demands in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the Joint Public Action Committee has imposed a lockdown and wheel-jam strike in the entire state and tension remains in the area on Tuesday as well.

One civilian was killed in violent incidents during protests at different places on Monday, while more than 27 were reported injured.

The government has completely shut down internet, mobile and landline services in the entire state from 12 noon on Sunday to deal with the protests.

The committee has 38 demands, including ending the privileges of the elite and royalty in hydroelectricity in Kashmir.

However, the most contentious demand, on which the government is deadlocked, is the abolition of the 12 seats reserved for refugees from Jammu and Kashmir in the Legislative Assembly.

In November last year, the Action Committee had blocked roads by going on a wheel-jam strike.

The committee convened a gathering at Pir Muzaffarabad Upper Adda in which the participants strongly criticized the rulers and the state machinery, while the committee officials announced the closure of all entry points across the state from 12 midnight.

The committee claims that ‘force was used by the state on peaceful protests.’
