Spain: A sudden fire broke out in the historic mosque of Cordoba, and the fire brigade took immediate action to control, but a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site was severely damaged.
As soon as the fire was reported in the Mosque of Cordoba, the fire brigade personnel arrived immediately, which prevented the spread of the fire in time.
During the rescue operation, tourists and the staff of the mosque, which has been declared a World Heritage Site, were shifted to a safe place.
After two hours of effort, the fire in the mosque was controlled, but even after that, the police and fire brigade teams remained present throughout the night to prevent any possible danger.
The mayor of Cordoba praised the timely and effective action of the fire crews and said that if there had been a few minutes of delay, irreparable damage could have been caused.
It should be noted that this mosque has now been converted into a church and is named the Cordoba Mosque-Cathedral.
This historical site has UNESCO World Heritage status and is visited by millions of tourists from all over the world every year.
After the fire incident, videos and photos went viral on social media, and people from all over the world expressed concern.
According to the local administration, the building was reopened to tourists on Saturday; however, the part where the fire broke out is still closed, and repair work is underway.
