Brussels: Belgium has announced the recognition of Palestine as a state at the United Nations General Assembly session.

The Belgian Foreign Minister made this announcement in his social media message.

On the other hand, British Foreign Minister David Lammy has said that if there is no progress on the ceasefire in Gaza, Britain will also announce the formal recognition of the Palestinian state at the General Assembly session this month.

According to David Lammy, the only way to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza is an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. He also called on Israel to stop escalating military operations.

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Pruitt has announced that his country will recognize the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly session this month.

According to the French news agency AFP, Maxime Pruitt wrote in a post on X on Tuesday that ‘Palestine will be recognized at the UN meeting and strict sanctions are also being imposed against the Israeli government.’

Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Pruitt said that ‘this decision has been made in view of the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, where the majority of the population has been displaced at least once due to the Israeli attack and the UN has declared a famine there.’

He further wrote that ‘Israel’s violation of international law, preventing the risks of genocide and keeping in mind its international obligations, Belgium has had to make tough decisions aimed at increasing pressure on the Israeli government and Hamas.’

Maxime Pruitt added that ‘the aim is not to punish the Israeli people, but to ensure that their government respects international and humanitarian law and takes some action that will change the situation.
