Paris: French police have launched a search for a man accused of killing a Muslim worshipper inside a mosque in the southern city, who made a video of the dead man on his mobile phone and shouted insults at Islam.

In the village of La Grande Combe in the Gard region of southern France, a worshipper was attacked with a knife dozens of times. Regional prosecutor Abdelkarim Greni said that the worshipper’s killer was still on the run on Saturday.

Investigators are now viewing the murder as a possible Islamophobia crime.

The alleged perpetrator made the video with his phone, which showed the victim crying in agony, and the killer shared the video on social media platforms.

The images posted on social media did not show the murder, but rather were recorded by security cameras inside the mosque.

In his footage, the killer looked at the cameras and was heard saying, “I will be arrested, that’s for sure.”

According to another source, the suspected perpetrator has been identified as a French citizen of Bosnian origin, who is not Muslim.

The incident took place on Friday morning, when only two people (the victim and the killer) were present in the mosque.
